Have just returned from seeing Wall-e with my 3 children, was totally dissapointed with it, the first 40 mins was boring and my childrens concentration of the film had gone....
no words were spoken only the occasional "Wall-e" or "eva", the best bit of the film was the last 20 mins rest of the film was rubbish, nothing like as fantastic as Cars, Toy Story, or any other Pixar film,
will definately not be buying it on dvd when its realesed>>>>

This really two films. The first half hour or so is focused on trying to make us feel the scale and sadness of a world left in ruins, and it works. The grim images are counterpointed by old recordings of popular songs and the last remaining musical on VHS and the movie establishes a dry non sentimental style - WALL E is charming but not cute ( though he does produce the odd ET type moan).

However once girlie robot EVA arrives and the two set off into space together the movie starts to drift off into boy meets girl - likes girl - girl is cool - gradually girl falls in love too - scenario ( even if she's actually a converted I-Pod).

In addition the rest of the film, set on the great starship where what's left of the hman race lives, is still hugely imaginative but much more conventional, with wham bam funny robots-go-mad sequences and a last minute happy ending. Still, all in all this is a film not to miss and certainly not just for the kids ( though the kids in my audience drank it all in anyway)
